Coverplast Crystal Prop antifouling paint

Crystal Prop

Coverage Guide Application Instructions BUY NOW

Crystal Prop is a self-cleaning, biocide-free, non-exfoliating, long-lasting paint. Designed specifically for use on Propellers, Shafts, Struts, SailDrives, Outdrives, and other metallic underwater gear. When applied, it creates a durable hard, slick surface that marine growth does not adhere to. Crystal Prop does not need a primer, thanks to its superior adhesion to metal. This makes it extremely durable and will hold up to propeller cavitation. The Crystal Prop kit consists of two bottles containing paint and hardener, which are mixed with a 1:1 ratio. This is a single-coat application that can be applied by brush or spray.

Each Kit Includes

  • Paint
  • Hardener
  • Mixing container

The SRC is non-corrosive due to being made of nylon

Crystal Prop creates an extremely smooth propeller surface resulting in decreased water resistance. This improves the overall performance of the vessel, resulting in higher hull speed, lower fuel consumption and resistance to the onset of cavitation. Marine growth will not attach to the paint. A treated propeller cleans itself as soon as it starts rotating, unlike traditional antifouling paints Crystal Prop will not lose its effectiveness with more use.

SRC on propeller shaft

It creates an excellent barrier against corrosion, by forming a strong protective film over the metal blocking it against galvanic currents. This will extend the life of sacrificial anodes. Crystal Prop is an ecologically friendly product; free of harmful toxins, biocides and metals.

Looking for a hassle-free solution to protect your boat from fouling? Look no further than Crystal Prop. Unlike other antifouling coatings, Crystal Prop is incredibly easy to apply. You can use a brush or spray gun to apply a single layer, and that's it! The result is a durable protective coating that keeps your boat looking and performing its best. Plus, with a dry-to-the-touch time of just 2 hours and a launch-ready time of 48 hours, you'll be back on the water in no time.

A 100ml kit of Crystal Prop will cover approximately 1.5 square meters or 2,325 square inches of metal.

Number of Blades Diameter of Propeller Number of Applications
3 blade 16" 5
4 blade 20" 3
3 blade 34" 1

It is important to follow the instructions fully. Like any paint, correct application is very important. Be sure to sand the surfaces aggressively and wait 48 hours prior to launch.

Step 1 - Clean The Surface

Clean propellers and underwater gear well. Remove all traces of marine growth, contaminants, old antifouling and grease.

Step 2 - Prep The Surface

Aggressively sand metallic surfaces with 80 grit sandpaper. For sterndrives and saildrive legs with original metallic coating; use 120 grit.

Step 3 - Clean Surface

Wipe down the metallic surfaces with acetone to remove any signs of dust, oil and grease.

Step 4 - Mix Crystal Prop

Mix Crystal Part A and Hardener Part B in a 1:1 ratio. Be sure to mix thoroughly and gently so as not to create bubbles.

Step 5 - Apply Crystal Prop

Apply Crystal Prop using a brush or spray gun (1.2mm nozzle and filters up to 190 micron). Apply only one coat in a thin, smooth layer (approx. 60 micron).

Let Dry

Crystal Prop will be touch dry in 2 hours, fully dry in 12 hours and the boat will be ready to launch in the water in 48 hours.

A 100ml kit of Crystal Prop will cover:

  • 3 blade, 16" propeller 5 times
  • 4 blade, 20" propeller 3 times
  • 3 blade, 16" propeller 1 time

Crystal Prop is dry-to-the-touch in just 2 hours and launch-ready time of 48 hours.

No primer is needed.

Only Clear is available at this time.

When fully cured, Crystal Prop is an ecologically friendly product, free of harmful toxins, biocides, and metals.

It dries to a hard and slippery surface that allows it to function like an antifouling paint. Marine growth can not adhere to the surface, once water flows over the surface any growth will slip off.

Crystal Prop has a shelf life of 2 years if unopened and stored in a cool, dry place. However, once opened, it can only last up to 6 months if resealed correctly. To ensure that the product stays fresh, it is important to seal the bottle securely and store it upside down after opening.

Yes, for re-application it is sufficient to sand the surfaces with 240 grit sandpaper and apply again.

Crystal Prop is designed for adhesion to underwater metals. But with a plastic primer base coat it will adhere to underwater plastics as well.
